Secondary

Setting our students’ up to thrive in their future pathways

While academically strong, our Secondary education also has a large focus on equipping youth for adult life, through encouraging responsibility, accountability, and self-reflection.  Students are always supported, but never spoon fed.  We actively promote a sense of agency and give students a voice in creating a vibrant learning environment where they feel confident to thrive. Our Student Representative Council plays a vital role in providing feedback and making positive changes to our Secondary College.

Our Learning Framework, based solidly in research informed pedagogy, is enhanced by a Rich Task Approach.  Suitable for students with sound independent study practices and A or B grades, the Rich Task Program allows students to undertake open ended investigations with real world value that interest them.  It is a key tool in preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow and to create leaders who are ready to forge their own paths.  The value of learning how to research, design, manage one’s time, prioritise tasks, report and complete projects is unmeasurable.

Our Secondary College offers three main senior pathways with plenty of room for flexibility in individual learning plans.

ATAR eligible HSC Pathway.

Combined vocational training & HSC pathway.

Non ATAR HSC Pathway.

Secondary student life is full and diverse at Summerland Christian College. We’re constantly exploring avenues for social, physical and spiritual development in addition to our thorough academic program. Some of the camp activities include:

High ropes course, Beach Camping, Snorkelling, Sandboarding, Senior Retreats, Off grid self-sufficient camping, mountain biking, white water canoeing, Tubing, & Surfing and Inland Australia adventures.

Sports

Sports, both team, individual and higher representative pathways can be valuable and enjoyable experiences for students, so we have plenty on offer.
Students can participate in several sports including playing at a representative level in Soccer, Netball, Rugby League, Touch Football, and Basketball.

In our Secondary College, students may feel the urge to discover the world and take risks. We encourage positive risk taking and provide opportunities for students to build confidence, safely outside their regular comfort zone.

Additional Sport Experience Days include:

Snorkelling
Horse Riding
Waterparks

We encourage students to share their gifts and explore their talents. There are also many opportunities throughout the year for students to give back and serve their local community. The college cafés and our in-house barista training are fantastic spaces for students to grow in confidence in a safe environment.
